I see that BeerSmith has a field for version but I'm not exactly sure how to use it. I seldom brew the same recipe the same way twice. I usually mix up something to try to improve the end result or just to see what happens. When doing so I generally just open the last version of the recipe I used and then "Save As" as the new recipe.

The other related question is how most of you track what's been brewed and what hasn't. I usually put together a recipe or two or five well before I order the ingredients and then eventually get around to brewing them. Setting the date doesn't really help because I usually don't know when I am going to brew them.

Both of these result in having multiple copies of recipes, which will likely lead to me reaching the 175-recipe limit pretty quickly.

TIA,

If you are using the desktop version, what I typically do is click on the "Copy to Brew Log" button after brewing is complete and then I bump the version number and date for my next brew so the brew log folder has a record of all the beers I brewed along with dates and versions.

However, I know some people will actually change the name to put the version in the name. Really how you decide to store old recipes is up to you but I typically use the "Copy to brew log" to make it easier.

In the new version I'm working on, when you create a new session for a beer it will give you the option to store a copy in the brew log and bump the version number.

All of my recipes that I brew get a copy placed into the Brew Log folder. At the beginning of the year I create a new sub folder that includes the year... Brew Log 2025. These recipes are locked because I don't want to accidentally change something and then not know exactly how it was made.
As for lining up several recipes for future brewing you can also create another sub folder somewhere to store those.
