BeerSmith has a Hop tool – evaluates the hop IBU value based on age and storage conditions.

I purchased a bunch of hops in the past and want to use them. They have been stored in oxygen proof bags and frozen so they should be good, just less potent.

I have BS recipes that call for the hop values (ounces) and boil times.

I want to use these older hops but will obviously have to increase the quantity.

I am looking for a formula or method to determine the amount of increase of the hops to match (get close) the original recipe.

The HSI (hop storage index) varies from variety to variety, The site linked below will give you the HSI and other information. Just enter the hop variety and scroll down. All parameters are averaged over several years for each variety.

I understand the tool and how to use it -- very useful. I failed to ask the question properly.

My question is using an example...
Original hop = 2 oz for xx% AA.
After storage the hop has a yy% AA -- somewhat less because of age

What should the amount of the 'stored hop' be to match the original recipe? Is it an increase via straight line percentage extrapolation or is there some other more complicated approach?

The conversion is pretty simple:

[Original wt of hops] * [Original %AA] = [new wt of hops] * [Adjusted %AA]

Solving this you get:

[New wt of hops] = ([Original wt of hops] * [Original %AA]) / [Adjusted %AA]

Thank you for your clarification -- the process is a fairly straight forward extrapolation.

I got confused and went down various rabbit holes regarding HSI methods and associate formulas.

Unlike @Oginme , I don't like to do math unless it's necessary:)

You can just edit the AA% in the listing for the hop? This will allow you to add it to new recipes just as you would any other listed hop.

If you're making adjustments within an existing recipe, note the IBUs for the addition then, using the substitution button, replace the item with the adjusted item and use the increase amt button until you reach the noted IBUs. Be sure to set the weight units for hops to grams. (tools/options/units)
Using grams gives you much smaller increments to work with, allowing you to be more precise when adding hops or adjusting IBUs.

28.3 grams = 1 ounce
454 grams = 1 pound
