Just read the discussion on the secondary topic and want to ask the group which type they use and why. I have both and each has its benefits

I have not graduated past plastic buckets. I have 3, 8-gallon buckets fermenters that I currently use. I also have 3 oe 4 carboys that I no longer use which makes me sad. 5 gallons of beer fermenting away in a glass carboy with an airlock on top just seems proper.

I've been looking at the Anvil bucket fermenter. But then I compare that to the 35 liter DigiBoil and it seems that the DigiBoil is pretty much the same thing with a 1500w heating element for on a few bucks more.

Then I look at the conicals. And then I look at the price. Truth be told, I can't think of any real issue I have that a conical would resolve. I can see where they would make some things better and easier but not game-changingly so.

I'm always open to being talked into buying new equipment though. Even stuff I don't need. 😀

Well I brewed a hundreds or more beers in buckets, still use them occasionally. Few years back Went with a fermzilla to see if I got anything more from it. So it can do pressure fermentation which is a plus but the main advantage to a conical is you can get at the yeast for a repitch before the beer is done fermented. Fresher the better. I like the fermzilla because you can see when the krausen starts to drop when adding hops. I also have a basic SS Chapman 7 gallon bucket fermenter which works like a regular bucket . A lot less cleaning involved .

I have a 10 gallon Firestone corny that has been sitting there waiting for me to turn it into a pressure fermenter. Alas, so many projects and so much beer to drink.

I recently did an on grain ferment of a bourbon that I just fermented in my all-in-one. I left it in there so I could leave the grain in the malt pipe which made separating the wash from the grain as simple as pulling the basked out.

I usually harvest yeast from the active fermentation. I just fill a half pint mason jar and stick it in the fridge. Then pitch that into a 2 liter started.
