Chronic over-carbonation

Hi, brew friends. The last few recipes I've created from scratch have all bubbled over my 22oz bottles, wasting precious homebrew and making a mess. What am I doing wrong? I tried cutting back on the bottling sugar but that hasn't done the trick yet. (And frankly, I'd rather have a little over-carbonation than flat beer.) Anyone willing to look at my recipes and offer some feedback? I really don't want to go back to extract-in-a-box, but it's starting to get embarrassing.

Common causes of bottles gushing when opened are bottling before FG is reached, over priming and bacterial infection. Because it's a chronic problem, my first guess would be an infection.

Hi, @BOB357 and thank you for the reply! I should have clarified that this only happens with the recipes that I have crafted using BeerSmith software. I don't have this problem when we use Brewer's Friend or other boxed recipes. Also, we maintain a pretty clean brewing environment and have never experienced any of the off flavors or other hallmarks associated with bacterial infection.

Thank you for the clarification. Not surprising since it appears that you haven't set up BeerSmith to match your system and technique. For your Berried Stout, obviously an extract brew, you have selected All Grain as the type of brew. The big differences between your expected and actual OGs and FGs are a pretty good indication too.

Assuming you haven't already, you need to set up equipment profiles that match your equipment and technique(s). For all grain and partial mash, you also need to either edit existing mash profiles or create new ones to reflect your process. As with other brewing software, BeerSmith relies heavily on your inputs in order to calculate expected volumes, specific gravities, color, IBUs and various other values. The accuracy of these values will only be as good as your inputs.

Here's a link that probably should follow the registration process to increase the chances of people reading it and starting off on the right foot:
https://beersmith.com/getting-started/ .

Once you've delved into the information that's available with BeerSmith, you'll understand how to take advantage of, arguably. the most powerup brewing software available.

Good luck and happy brewing.

Thanks again, @BOB357 ! These videos are helpful; definitely agree with your suggestion to add them to the registration process. However, I can't find any info on setting up my mash profiles correctly. Any videos/articles you would suggest there?
