As you may know, Apple has confirmed that Rosetta 2 support ends with macOS 28. After that, Intel-based apps stop running on Apple Silicon hardware entirely. BeerSmith 3 happens to be one of those apps that is currently Intel-only, which means it has a hard expiration date on every M-series Mac in your user base.

I've been looking for any public communication from the development team about a Universal binary or native ARM build and haven't found anything (no roadmap mention, no forum post, no release note). If there's work happening on this, it's not visible.

So the question is straightforward: Is a native Apple Silicon version of BeerSmith3 in development, and if so, what's the timeline? macOS 28 is probably 12–18 months out. That's not a lot of runway for users who use this software for active production use.

The new BeerSmith 4 is completely compatible with the latest Mac Silicons architecture. I'm recommending you consider transitioning to BeerSmith 4 which is available now and is included with all Gold, Platinum and Pro licenses. It is also more robust and secure.

Thanks for the response! Is there an upgrade path to BeerSmith 4 for Basic license holders? I originally purchased mine as a one-time fee and didn't anticipate the desktop client becoming incompatible with my hardware.

Apple has a habit of making most everything backward incompatible after a few years. I don't like it either but the truth is I can only compile any Apple program to work with a limited set of hardware.

The software continues to run on Apple Silicon through Apple's Rosetta 2 translation layer, providing solid compatibility and reliable performance for most brewing tasks.
