Dry vs. liquid yeast

I look at my old stir plate, O2 bottles, oxidation wand, FastPitch cans, etc., and wonder if I'll ever use them again. Dry yeast is much better than it used to be: many varieties, longer storage life, and what could be easier than sprinkling it on top of the wort? I haven't yet heard a cogent analysis of which is better – dry or liquid, and whether all that extra trouble with agitation and O2 is worth it. I for one see no real difference: either way, the fermentations I get are vigorous and effective. Would love to hear opinions.

Agree 100%. After using liquid yeasts for several years, I switched to dry and never looked back. So much easier and, as you say, much longer shelf life. I haven't found a downside yet. There are still a few styles that almost demand a strain that's only available in liquid form, but not as many as there were just a few years ago.

Yes, dry yeast is great if you can find the strain you want. My local homebrew store carried fresh liquid yeast that was very reliable, but since they have closed I am not confident in having liquid yeast shipped, especially during the warmer months, so I am using more dry yeast. I still use WY1469 in liquid form.
