It would be nice to be able to add new hop uses to the dropdown or at least have a couple custom list items that can be renamed by the user in the Preferences / Options screen.

For example, I would like to add a dip hop item to the Use list when adding hops. I'd like it to show up after the fermentables and before the hops in the recipe builder. It should have fields such as temp and duration and of course amount of hops.

thank you!

You can customize nearly everything in Beersmith. Since dip hopping is done in the whirlpool step just choose the Steep/Whirlpool steo in the Use dropdown when adding your hops to a recipe. You can then change the temperature, the duration and the amount of hops used.

If there are specific hops you wish to use for the purpose you could just go to the Hops section under Ingredients and pick one like Cascade. Copy it and paste it into the list. Then in the copy change the "type" to Aroma and rename it something like Cascade Dip Hop.

@Kevin58 thank you for the response! Nearly everything can be customized but maybe not this!

The problem is dip hopping is often done well before the whirlpool (concurrent with the boil) and then you may also have true whirlpool hopping. If you mark both as Steep/Whirlpool then you might not remember which is which and for how long and at what temp you each for when you brew the next batch.

I currently put dip hopping details in the notes box but it would be nice to see it right in the recipe as it would also pop up on the Timer tab. Duplication of the hop as you suggest is a good thought but then the inventory feature of Beersmith no longer works as I'd have to manually manage this aspect.

I do appreciate the suggestions but I am guessing I will just continue to use the Notes box. If Beersmith even added "Other" to the use dropdown that would solve my issue as I would just know Other is for DH. Or maybe I will use First Wort as my DH item since I rarely use FW hops. hmm.

Cheers!
