Best method to make homemade amber malt?

It seems as if Randy Mosher has one way of doing it and Ray Daniels offers a completely different way in their respective books.  I've tried Mosher's method and I don't think the results were really all that great.  Has anybody tried the Method suggested by Daniels?  How were the results?
