Oatmeal Stout- can I steep oats with grains?
« on: May 31, 2004, 04:49:22 AM »
On my next beer I plan on making an Oatmeal Stout(extract with grains)
I like to make a tea with the grains and add it to mixture. Would it be ok to steep my oats with the other grains at 155 degrees for 30 minutes(1 lb oats)  ? Also, would regular grocery store oats work and do I need to crush oats.

That's exactly the way I do it...make sure to use the real oats tho, as opposed to Minute or 5-Minute or whatever.  It'll say something like rolled oats on the box.  I just use Quaker and things come out nicely...as a matter of fact, I have on in the keg right now.  ;D
