BeerSmith - take the guesswork out of brewing!

All,
In response to continuing "spam" attacks, I installed a new module  on brewpoll that limits the number of links that new users may submit to one story per 24 hours.  This effectively stops "spammers" bots from hit an run attacks where they can submit a bunch of stories which I then have to manually delete.

As your submitted story gains votes or you submit additional stories, the quality of the stories is evaluated by the number of votes they attract.  If you get positive votes you can submit more stories per day.

In practical terms, this is a limit primarily on brand new users.  Once you have submitted a few quality stories, you should have no problem with the limit as your average votes will grow.

Your level is defined by the AVERAGE USER LINKS VOTES for your last 10 stories submitted.
Level 0 - default new user level - allows 1 story submission per 24 hours
Level 1 - two votes average per story - allows 5 stories to be submitted per 24 hours
Level 2 - three vote average per story - allows 10 stories submitted per day
Level 3 - five vote average per story - allows 20 story submissions per day

Note that comments may also be restricted for new users who try to spam by commenting excessively.

If anyone runs into problems with the new restrictions please let me know as I can modify levels/votes to balance usability against limiting the spammers.

Note that I also took the extreme measure of blocking some of the country IP addresses that the spam was coming from - notably several blocks of IP addresses from India, China, etc.  Again if you find you are having trouble accessing brewpoll and believe I may have blocked you unfairly, please PM me with your IP address and I will consider removing you from the blocked list.

Thanks,
Brad
