According to my research:

?1ml of Hopshots (a CO2 Extracted Hop Oil, pre-Isomerizaion), boiled for 60 minutes, will impart 10 IBUs into a 5 gallon batch at 1.050.?

Assuming this is correct, I created a simple recipe on BeerSmith for a 5 gallon batch at 1.050. I added 1ml of Hopshots (now incorporated into BeerSmith 3) as a 60 minute boil. No other hop addition. I was expecting the IBUs to be at 10, but the estimate was only 7.5 IBUs.

In the recipe builder, Hopshots is listed as 65 alpha; 4 Beta.

To get 10 IBUs, I would have to adjust the Alpha to about 95.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
R.

Confusing! That's the thing about using mega brewer technology on a homebrew scale, isn't it?

The short answer is that the IBU calculation depends on which formula you use. The Hopshot rating of 10 IBU at 5 gallons is accurate using the Rager Formula. Tinseth is 7.x (I got 7.9)

The Hopshot is NOT pre isomerized. It requires boiling to yield isomers.

That?s it. It?s the modeling that is different and thanks for the confirmation.
