Hello the beer I am brewing has an OG of 1.050 an FG of 1.011. Now the recipe say to Begin fermentation at 68 ?F (20 ?C) slowly raising temperature to 72 ?F (22 ?C) by the last one-third of fermentation. Now my math is a little rough around the edges basic I am asking how does one calculate where the last 1/3 is

Greetings - if I understand your question, you need to know at what point you raise the fermentation temperature or where the final 1/3 is.

OG (1.050 - FG 1.011) = .039 / 3 = .013 + FG 1.011 = 1.024

Raise the temperature when your beer reaches 1.024

Hope this helps!

or you can go by the basic [even if not technically the most accurate] assumption that fermentation last for 6 days.
then the last 1/3 is the last 2 days.

this is for ales since lagers are, well, difficult, LOL.
