Description

A calculator to determine the appropriate strike or infusion water temperature.  In infusion mashing, a fixed amount of heated water is added to the mash to raise the temperature to the desired target temperature.  For a given target temperature, this calculator determines the correct temperature of the water to infuse.

Use

bulletSelect the Strike/Infusion Temperature command on the Tools menu.
bulletEnter the target temperature and other parameters needed for the calculation.
bulletRead the Infusion Water Temperature from the bottom of the view.

View Description

bulletCalculation - The type of calculation to perform.  For the initial (first) infusion, called a strike, select Initial Strike.  If this is a subsequent infusion step, select Infusion Step.
bulletTarget Step Temperature - The desired strike or step temperature.
bulletWater to Add - The amount of heated water to add (infuse) to the mash to raise the temperature of the mash.
bulletStarting Water Volume - The amount of water already in the mash -- note that this is assumed to be zero for an Initial Strike calculation.
bulletWeight of Grain - The total amount of grain in the mash at this stage.
bulletInitial Grain Temperature - (For an initial strike only)  This is the temperature of the grain and mash tun before adding the infusion water.
bulletInitial Mash Temperature - (For an infusion step calculation only)  This is the temperature of the mash before the new heated water is added (infused)
bulletMash Tun Weight - The weight of the mash tun that needs to be heated.  If non-zero, the infusion temperature is adjusted upward to compensate for the thermal mass of the mash tun.
bulletInfusion Water Temperature - The calculated temperature of the water to add (infuse) to achieve the desired target step temperature.
bulletWater/Grain Ratio - The total amount of water AFTER the infusion, divided by the total amount of grain.  Represents the ratio as it would be after the infusion water has been added.
bulletError - Strike temperature above boiling!  Add more water! - If you see this message displayed, then the calculated water temperature is above the boiling point of water.  More infusion water will be needed to reach the target temperature.  Increase the amount in the  Water to Add field.
